How To Create A Ritual For Today's New Moon In Taurus

Recently, I was listening to a podcast featuring Alan Moore, famed author of comic classics such as Watchman and Batman as well as a self-proclaimed mystic. He defined magic as “any purposeful engagement with the phenomena and possibility of consciousness.” This definition of magic can be applied with intention to almost any area of our lives and our work magnifying the accessibility of magic in our day-to-day lives if we only let it.

In honor of today’s New Moon in Taurus, I invite y’all to create some magic in your evening. You won’t need any crystals, tarot cards, or incense in the ways I’ve outlined below but if that feels authentic to you then you can absolutely incorporate them into your routine. Remember that there’s no right or wrong way, this is more of a choose your own adventure vibe — just like life.

Clean Your Space

New moons are a blank slate in the sky and signal the perfect time to clear out your space both energetically and physically. Think of it as cleaning things to make room for the intentions and manifestations you’d like to bring into your life in the coming months. I’m a big believer in clearing out your physical space and getting it into a state of tidy to both cleanse your energy and find clarity.

My apartment is a bit messy right now (if I’m being completely honest), so I’m going to spend an hour this evening getting my space into shape. Here’s my plan of attack should you want to do the same: hang up and fold all of my clothes (wtf is happening in my closet rn??), put away all unnecessary knick-knacks, return any items not in their place to their most comfortable spot in my home, put on a clean set of bedding, wipe down all counter spaces and mirrors, sweep and vacuum all floors and finish it off with a fresh mop. I will do all this whilst listening to Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 album Rumors, because what’s witchier than the melodic energy of Stevie?

Someone once told me that your external space is a reflection of your internal world, and while I’m by no means militant in my cleanliness, I do think there’s a grain of salt for us all to savor there.

Meditate

Meditation is polarizing, y’all. Some people can’t live without it, some people can’t seem to get into it, and some pretend to do it religiously as a holier than thou testament to their spirituality but who knows if that’s actually the case behind the scenes. I fall into the track of folks who do find a lot of value in meditation. That being said, consistently keeping up with my practice has been difficult in the past couple of months. So even if meditating is a part of your routine, you can still tap into the magic tonight.

Since New Moon’s are about setting intentions and holding visions for your life, find some chill space post-cleaning to close your eyes whilst listening to some ambient tunes to hold a vision for the manifestations you want to bring into your life. What do you want your life to look like in 3 months? 6 months? A year? Dream about it, baby.

If you wanna do a guided meditation, I super recommend astrologer, Chani Nicholas’ eponymous app Chani. Her meditations can be found under the Workshops tab, and her astrological guidance is phenomenal offering a perspective that is both expanding and relatable in a way I haven’t experienced before.

Journal

In order to look forward it’s important to reflect on where you’ve been and where you want to go. Pour yourself a cup of tea or maybe a nice cold booch, and dedicate some time to put pen to paper. Here are some questions to get your journaling session going:

  • What have I learned in the past month?
  • Where have I grown?
  • What manifestations have been brought to fruition in my life?
  • What do I want my life to feel and look like in 6 months?
  • What am I craving most right now?

After your journaling exploration, take some time to set real tangible intentions you’d like to create in your life in the coming months. Here are some examples:

  • This cycle I call harmony in my relationships
  • This cycle I am creating the ability to set boundaries with my clients
  • This cycle I want to cultivate a sense of calm over my life
  • This cycle I want to find discipline and consistency in my nutrition

I’m merely a hobbyist mystic, but I find these rituals to be very grounding and I hope you do to. Do you have any witchy practices you like to double down on during a New Moon? Shoot me an email at hey@troupebeauty.com. I wanna connect with y'all.
